Does this wedding idea sound alright or to selfish?

we plan on getting married next year interstate.. It's only a small, intimate wedding with only very close friends and family (no more then say 40 guests including some children). My fiance and I came up with the idea of paying for the whole wedding (ceremony, reception and accommodation) for our guests to stay 2-3 nights. The only thing we are asking our guests is to pay for their own airfares.. It's only a 3 hour flight. We ran the idea by a family member who said the idea was selfish and WE should pay for EVERYTHING including airfares.. We have a budget and had an option to pay for accommodation or airfares. We chose accommodation because we're having our reception at that place so our guests wont have far to travel after the reception. Are we being selfish?? I'm not changing my wedding plans to suit guests needs. If in the end our wedding is just bride, groom and our two kids, then so be it.
