What, to a guy, is intimate?

Just like there's no blanket statement you can make about females regarding this subject, the same can be said about the men. If I took a shower with my gf and we cuddled in bed without having sex that would blow out the top of my intimacy thermometer. Yes, I'd get an erection - hell, baby boys get erections, but we wouldn't have to have sex for me to consider the experience VERY intimate. Though frankly I don't know how you expect me to keep my hands off of you after all that. And you damned sure better be ready to give me a gold star. You can count on me to give you one for pure torture. :)))
